The series IIIc5 751-752 were two mallet - tender locomotives with three coupling axles for adhesion and gear drive in Bosnian gauge , procured by the Bosnian-Herzegovinian State Railways (BHStB). The Yugoslav Railways (JDŽ) referred to it as the 196 series.
history
To increase the efficiency of Narentabahn and for the never-built Spalatobahn the Bosnian-Herzegovinian procured State Railways (BHStB) in the locomotive factory Floridsdorf two powerful Zahnradlokomotiven series IIIc5 with the numbers 751 to 752, for the Roman Abt developed the drive system.
technical features
The two machines with the 2zz'C wheel arrangement were bogus mallet locomotives in which the low-pressure engine-driven gear drive and the two running axles were located in the front drawbar frame. In adhesion mode, the two high - pressure engines acted as twin engines directly on the drive axle . The two low-pressure cylinders of the gear drive were switched on on rack sections and the locomotive worked in interconnected operation . The front landing gear had an inner frame, the adhesion landing gear an outer frame , and the adhesion drive was carried out by Hall cranks . The external crank disks of the gear drive also served as the brake drum for the band brake . As with some of the machines of the predecessor IIIc5 701ff. an additional blue oil firing made driving through tunnels easier . In accordance with the state of the art at the time, the locomotives were equipped with a Clench-Gölsdorf type steam dryer . In contrast to the Schmidt superheater, the lower steam temperatures made it possible to use flat slide valves on the high-pressure cylinders as well, but the additional third pipe wall in the boiler could hardly be sealed due to the thermal expansion of the pipes.
business
The maximum trailer load was 150 tons. On a 60 ‰ gradient , the locomotives carried 85 tons at 8 km / h, on 15 ‰ 120 tons at 20 km / h.
The mallet locomotives did not prove themselves, so there were undesirable vibrations in the gear drive. It stayed with the two copies delivered in 1906 and from 1908 to 1919 a further 21 replicas of the proven predecessor series IIIc5 701ff were made. procured.
