The SDŽ 391 to 402 were narrow-gauge tank locomotives of the Mallet type of the Serbian State Railways Srpske državne železnice (SDŽ).
history
For the Donja Čupria - Senjski Rudnik coal railway in central Serbia, the Henschel & Sohn locomotive factory in Kassel produced two Mallet-type tank locomotives in 1907 . Similar locomotives had previously been built for the Steinhelle – Medebach Kleinbahn in Westphalia .
In 1911, the Hohenzollern Corporation for Locomotive Construction in Düsseldorf supplied ten more largely identical steam locomotives . The machines were used on the Kruševac - Užice , Mladenovac - Lajkovac and Čupria - Ravna Reka routes in eastern and central Serbia.
During the First World War , five of the locomotives were confiscated and transported away by the Deutsche Heeresfeldbahn . At the end of the war, three of the locomotives remained on a military transport in Praha-Bubny station. The vehicles were confiscated there by the Czechoslovak Army and added to their inventory.
Three more locomotives came to the ku k during the First World War . Army Railways . One of these locomotives was at the end of the war for repair at the Karl Finze company in Teplitz-Schönau / Northern Bohemia (today Teplice). This locomotive also eventually came to the Czechoslovak Army.
After the First World War, only eight locomotives remained in Serbia. They received the new numbers 13001 to 13007 from the railways of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes .
The Yugoslav State Railways (JDŽ) redrawn seven locomotives in 1933 as 90-001 to 90-007. It was not until the end of the 1960s that they were retired and scrapped. No locomotive from the JDŽ series 90 has been preserved in a museum.
The U 47.0 series in Czechoslovakia
In November 1920 the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) acquired the three locomotives that had remained in Prague. From then on, they were used under the old SDŽ numbers in South Bohemia on the narrow-gauge railways around Jindřichův Hradec . In 1924 they received the new ČSD numbers U 47.001 to U 47.003. The locomotive that remained in Teplitz-Schönau was also purchased by the ČSD in 1930 as the U 47.004.
The four locomotives remained in use almost continuously on the narrow-gauge network of Jindřichův Hradec until they were retired. Locomotives were relocated only in connection with the delivery of the first new diesel locomotives of the ČSD series T 47.0 in 1954. The U 47.003 was transferred to the narrow-gauge railway Třemešná ve Slezsku – Osoblaha in June 1955 , the U 47.002 came to the Prešov pioneer railway in 1959 . The U 47.003 and U 47.004 locomotives were the first to be retired in 1961 and scrapped soon after.
The U 47.001, on the other hand, was acquired by the National Technical Museum in Prague in 1966 . After a long period of storage in the museum's outdoor area, it was finally restored to working condition in 1986. Since then it has occasionally been used in front of the museum trains in Jindřichův Hradec. The lease with the Jindřichohradecké místní dráhy (JHMD) ended in December 2017, and since then it has been stored in the Chomutov museum depot in a non-operational state.
As the last of the ČSD locomotives, the U 47.002 remained in operation on the pioneer railway in Prešov until 1966 . It was later erected as a memorial at the Prešov locomotive depot.
