Jaakov Blumas (* 1953 in Vilnius ) is a German artist.

Life

Born into a Jewish family, Jaakov Blumas grew up in Vilnius, Lithuania, in the former Soviet Union . In 1971 he emigrated with his family to Israel , where he studied civil engineering at the Technion in Haifa from 1972 to 1974 . From 1974 to 1982 he worked as a practical civil engineer in Tel Aviv . From 1982 to 1989 he studied fine arts at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts with Gotthard Graubner . Jaakov Blumas has been a member of the Free Academy of the Arts in Hamburg since 2018 , where he also lives and works.

Jaakov Blumas sees his artistic work in the tradition of the constructivists . By working with different materials, he tests the actual as well as the painted dimension of the room and the object-like nature of the picture . Blumas expressly sees the viewer as a co-producer of his pictures. In this sense, for example, pictures consisting of several parts make it possible to put together modularly designed pictures in different ways.
