Jack L. Strominger

Jack Leonard Strominger (born August 7, 1925 in New York City ) is an American immunologist and professor at Harvard University in Cambridge , Massachusetts .

Strominger did fundamental work in the field of molecular immunology to understand the human immune response . His main research area was the structure and function of the proteins of the major histocompatibility complex .

Life

Strominger earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1948 and an MD from Yale University in New Haven , Connecticut in 1948

A first junior professorship ( Assistant Professor 1955, Associate Professor 1958), Strominger received a full professorship at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis , Missouri , in 1960. In 1964 he received a call to the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison , Wisconsin , and in 1968 he moved to Harvard University as a professor of biochemistry . Since 1983 he has been researching at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute . Strominger is still leading a research group (as of 2011) at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University.

Jack Strominger's son Andrew is a theoretical physicist and string theorist at Harvard University in Cambridge , Massachusetts .
