Jacob Albrecht von Sienen (born March 30, 1724 in Hamburg ; † August 22, 1800 there ) was a German mayor.

Life

Jacob Albrecht von Sienen was born as the son of the merchant Johannes von Sienen (* unknown; † 1744) and his wife Caecilia Maria (* unknown; † 1737), b. Duve, born.

He received tuition at home from private tutors , primarily from Georg Friedrich Richertz (1711–1773), who later became Vice Rector of the Johanneum and a doctor of medicine. At the academic high school he then had lessons with Michael Richey , Hermann Samuel Reimarus and Christoph Heinrich Dornemann (1682–1753).

On April 2, 1743, he went to study at the University of Leipzig , where he attended Gottfried Mascov's legal lectures . Because of his father's death, he was forced to return home and stop studying. After he was able to continue and graduate later, he traveled through Germany and Holland . In Holland, he had a scientific treatise on certain laws in print and was then proclaimed a licentiate and then a doctor of both rights by the rector Evert Jacob van Wachendorff on June 29, 1747 . He then pursued legal cases in Wetzlar at the highest German court, the Reich Chamber Court, for a long time and then settled in Hamburg as a lawyer in 1748 for the next 17 years.

When Vincent Rumpff (1701–1781) succeeded Lucas Corthum as mayor and then vacated his senatorial position, Jacob Albrecht von Sienen, who was proposed as a senator with other legal consultants , was drawn as the new senator on January 23, 1765. In the following year, in 1766, he took over the administration as bailiff in Ritzebüttel in the local castle . In 1772 he returned to Hamburg and was active on the city council. After Vincent Rumpp died on March 28, 1781, Jacob Albrecht von Sienen was elected mayor as his successor. After the death of the oldest mayor, Albert Schulte (1716–1786), he took over his first role in the Republic of Hamburg and held the office until his death. His successor was Peter Hinrich Widow .

Jacob Albrecht von Sienen was married to Pauline Conradine, a daughter of Johann Conrad Steckelmann († 1733), senior citizen and president . They had three children together:

  • Johannes von Sienen (May 4, 1767 - December 5, 1845), merchant;
  • Jakob Albrecht von Sienen (born June 25, 1768 in Ritzebüttel Palace, † January 17, 1837 in Hamburg), Senate Syndicus ;
  • Margarethe Caroline von Sienen (* December 3, 1770; † unknown), married to Johannes Carl Dürkop (* May 4, 1767; † unknown), businessman.
