Jacques Teyssier (* 31 October 1955 in Annonay , † 25. July 2009 in Berlin ) was a French - German manager and LGBT - activists . Most recently, he was General Director of the French subsidiary of a German pharmaceutical company and Honorary Chairman of the Lesbian and Gay Association in Germany (LSVD). He was the long-standing partner of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen politician Volker Beck .

Life

Teyssier studied at the École de Management de Lyon ( EMLYON Business School since 2008 ) in Lyon with a degree in Grande école , represented a pharmaceutical company from Jeddah throughout the Middle East and was later General Manager of Madaus France. After acquiring German citizenship , Teyssier also retained French.

Teyssier was a member of the federal executive committee of the LSVD from 1996 to 2008 and was federal treasurer for many years. In an obituary, the LSVD pays tribute to Jacques Teyssier's performance. He had “played a key role in shaping the working method and strategy of the association [...].” He was involved in the ILGA primarily at the European level and helped to advance the LSVD's UN advisory status. He was also instrumental in founding the human rights organization Hirschfeld-Eddy-Stiftung . He represented his association at demonstrations in Warsaw and Moscow . In 2009 he was made honorary chairman in recognition of his work for the LSVD and at international level. The Kölner Express wrote about him: “With him, the international lesbian and gay movement is losing a committed and assertive fighter.” On the websites of homosexual news portals in many countries, his work was commemorated on the occasion of his death. The Russian homosexual civil rights organization gayrussia speaks of a “key role” of the “famous Franco-German activist” in LSVD and ILGA. In 2007 he was an honorary co-chair of the International Gay Lesbian Leadership Conference in Las Vegas. Teyssier also repeatedly turned against discrimination in Germany. According to the dpa , he criticized an instruction from the Ministry of Defense, which was intended to prevent soldiers on business trips in Cologne from spending the night near gay bars, as “culturally retrograde and undemocratic”.

In 2008 Jacques Teyssier entered into a civil partnership with Volker Beck , with whom he had lived for 17 years, in accordance with the Civil Partnership Act . Although they kept appointments together, private life remained taboo for the media and separate from politics. In 2009 Jacques Teyssier, who had been HIV positive for many years, succumbed to cancer. At an outgames conference in Copenhagen and at the CSD in Saarbrücken, he was remembered with a minute's silence. Nikolai Alexejew , Moscow Pride chief organizer, emphasized in an obituary that Teyssier always supported the cause of lesbians and gays in Russia in word and deed.
