Jagan Nath Dhamija

Jagan Nath Dhamija (born August 17, 1913 - October 30, 1999 in Delhi ) was an Indian diplomat .

Life

Jagan Nath Dhamija was a son of Devi Dass Dhamija from Kamalia in Punjab . He attended Emmanuel College and received a Masters from the University of Cambridge . In 1940 he was a member of the Lincoln's Inn and a barrister . From 1940 to 1944 he was used in World War II, on June 23, 1941 was appointed paymaster . In 1944 he joined the Indian Political Service . From 1946 to 1949 he was Deputy Commissioner of Dera Ismail Khan , State Secretary in Balochistan , Deputy Political Commissioner in Gilgit-Baltistan and State Secretary for Politics in the government of Jawaharlal Nehru .

From September 1948 he was secretary of the Indian delegation at the third session of the United Nations General Assembly in the Palais de Chaillot , where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted on December 10, 1948 . From 1949 to 1952 he was the first-class delegation secretary, chargé d' affaires of the Indian High Commission in Canberra .

From 1958 to 1960 he was High Commissioner for India in Mauritius . From 1960 to 1964 he was ambassador to Kabul . From 1964 to 1966 he was the Foreign Office Liaison Officer and Master of Ceremonies for the Government of India. From 1966 to 1969 he was ambassador to Prague . In 1969 he was ambassador to The Hague . From 1978 to 1980 he was Ambassador to Rome and at the same time High Commissioner in Valletta ( Malta ).
