Jaime Pedro Gonçalves

Jaime Pedro Gonçalves (born November 26, 1936 in Manica , † April 6, 2016 in Beira ) was a Mozambican clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Beira .

Life

Jaime Pedro Gonçalves was ordained a priest for the diocese of Beira on December 17, 1967 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 19, 1975 Coadjutor Bishop of Beira and Titular Bishop of Ficus . The bishop of Porto Amélia , Januário Machaze Nhangumbe , donated him episcopal ordination on March 28 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Alexandre José Maria Cardinal dos Santos OFM , Archbishop of Lourenço Marques , and Alberto Setele , Bishop of Inhambane .

With the resignation of Ernesto Gonçalves da Costa OFM on December 3, 1976, he succeeded him as Bishop of Beira. With the elevation to the archbishopric on June 4, 1984 he was appointed Archbishop of Beira.

On January 14, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI. the resignation put forward by Jaime Pedro Gonçalves for reasons of age.
