Hugo Barrantes Ureña (born May 21, 1936 in Fredericton ) is a Costa Rican clergyman and retired Archbishop of San José de Costa Rica .

Life

Hugo Barrantes Ureña was ordained a priest for the diocese of San Isidro de El General on December 23, 1961 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Puntarenas on April 17, 1998 . The episcopal ordination donated him the Archbishop of San José de Costa Rica , Román Arrieta Villalobos , on July 16 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Ignacio Nazareno Trejos Picado , Bishop of San Isidro de El General , and Héctor Morera Vega , Bishop of Tilarán .

As a motto he chose Duc in Altum . On July 13, 2002, he was appointed Archbishop of San José de Costa.

On July 4, 2013, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
