history
The diocese of San Isidro de El General was founded on August 19, 1954 by Pope Pius XII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Neminem fugit from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of San José de Costa Rica and the Diocese of Alajuela and subordinated to the Archdiocese of San José de Costa Rica as a suffragan . On 17 April 1998, the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Isidro de El General part of its territory was the foundation of the Apostolic Constitution Sacrorum Antistites erected Diocese of Puntarenas from.
