history

The diocese of Alajuela was founded on February 16, 1921 by Pope Benedict XV. established with the Apostolic Constitution Praedecessorum from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of San José de Costa Rica and subordinated to this as a suffragan diocese. On August 19, 1954, the Diocese of Alajuela were parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution fugit Neminem erected Diocese of San Isidro de El General from. Another area assignment was made on July 22, 1961 founding of the Apostolic Constitution Qui aeque erected Diocese of Tilarán . The Diocese of Alajuela announced on July 25, 1995 parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution Maiori christifidelium erected Diocese of Ciudad Quesada from.
