Bartolome Buigues Oller

Bartolomé Buigues Oller TC (born March 7, 1963 in Teulada , Spain ) is a Spanish religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Alajuela in Costa Rica .

Bartolomé Buigues Oller joined the boys' seminary of his later religious community in Godella near Valencia in 1974 at the age of eleven and, after graduating from school, spent a time as a candidate and postulant in nearby Torrent (Valencia) . In 1981 he joined the Amigonian religious order and spent the year-long novitiate in Burgos . He made his perpetual profession on June 25, 1988 in Torrent, where he also received the sacrament of ordination on April 22, 1989 . He then did his military service in Morón de la Frontera in southern Spain, where he was installed as a military chaplain. He worked as an educator in various boarding schools and nurseries of his order in Spain and worked as a chaplain at a parish in Madrid run by the order . He has been working in Costa Rica since 1992 and has meanwhile also worked in Chile , Bolivia and the Dominican Republic , among other things as a novice master . From 2010 to 2013 he served as Provincial Superior of his order for Central America , Mexico and Venezuela and was most recently Chairman of the Costa Rican Conference of Superiors from 2016 until his appointment as bishop.

On March 1, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Alajuela. On May 26 of that year, at the same time the day of taking possession of his diocese, his predecessor gave him Ángel San Casimiro Fernández OAR in San José , the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were the Old Bishop of Tilarán , Vittorino Girardi MCCJ , and the Bishop of San Isidro de El General , Gabriel Enrique Montero Umaña OFMConv . Buigues chose Doy mi vida por las ovejas (“I give my life for the sheep”, according to Jn 10.11–15 EU ), the episcopal motto of  the founder of the Amigonian order, Luis Amigó OFMCap, as the motto . After Amigó, Buigues is the first bishop in the history of his religious community.
