The diocese of Limón ( Latin Dioecesis Limonensis , Spanish diócesis de Limón ) is in Costa Rica situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Puerto Limón .

history

The diocese of Limón was on February 16, 1921 by Pope Benedict XV. established with the Apostolic Constitution Praedecessorum from cession of territory of the Archdiocese of San José de Costa Rica as the Apostolic Vicariate Limón .

The Apostolic Vicariate Limón was elevated to a diocese on December 30, 1994 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Cum Vicariatus Apostolicus and subordinated to the Archdiocese of San José de Costa Rica as a suffragan diocese. On 24 May 2005 the diocese of Limón were parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution contingit Saepe erected Diocese of Cartago from.
