Jakob Ermarth , knight of Ermarth since 1855 , (born October 26, 1790 in Ingolstadt , † April 3, 1865 in Augsburg ) was a Bavarian lieutenant general .

Life

family

Ermarth was the son of a Bavarian sergeant who came from Wachenheim an der Pfrimm in Rhineland-Hesse . He was married to Maria, nee Popp. She was the daughter of the ennobled Higher Appeal Court director Friedrich von Popp (1757–1837).

Military career

Due to the military environment in which he grew up, Ermarth occurred on 1 July 1801 Pfeifer in the Bavarian Army one. He served in the later 6th Infantry Regiment , his father's unit. Here the boy became a Hautboist in 1803 and then embarked on the career of an officer. In 1815 he was a first lieutenant and on February 22nd of that year he was transferred to the Infantry Body Regiment . In 1831, Ermarth was promoted to captain there . a. acted as adjutant to General Karl Theodor von Pappenheim (1771-1853). In 1839 he became a major , at the same time he worked as a consultant in the War Ministry and in 1843 received the Cross of the Order of Ludwig .

As a colonel , Ermarth was promoted to commander of the Infantry Leib Regiment in 1848 and remained so until 1851. On June 30, 1851, Ermarth was appointed Major General and Commander of the Federal Fortress of Ulm , and on December 28, 1852, Commander of the 4th Infantry Brigade in Ingolstadt. Finally he became city commander of Augsburg and received as such on January 1, 1855 the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown . Associated with this was the elevation to the personal nobility status and he was allowed to call himself Ritter von Ermarth after his entry in the nobility register .

On May 9, 1859, Ermarth retired as Lieutenant General, was transferred to Munich after his death and buried there in the Altes Südfriedhof .

The general appears in 1860 as a member of the association for the support of needy residents of Munich with fuel and in the Munich Art Association .
