Yakov Vladimirovich Samoilov ( Russian Яков Владимирович Самойлов ; born November 23 . Jul / 5. December  1870 greg. In Odessa ; † 29. September 1925 in Moscow ) was a Russian mineralogist , geologist and university professor .

Life

Samoilov studied at the physical - mathematical faculty of the New Russian University in Odessa with graduation in 1893. He then went to Moscow with a letter of recommendation to VI Vernadsky , who was a private lecturer at Moscow University . Samoyilov began his scientific work with Vernadsky, whose friend he became and remained until his death. In 1902 he successfully defended his master's thesis on the crystallization of barite . However, because of his Jewish descent, he could not stay at the university.

1902 Samoilov was on the mineralogy - Chair of the country and - Forestry Scientific Institute Nowa Alexandria appointed. In 1906 he successfully defended his doctoral thesis on minerals in Donbass at the University of Moscow . Now he was able to return to Moscow and became a professor at the Moscow Agricultural Institute , where he founded a mineralogical museum for fertilizer raw materials . In addition, he taught from 1907 first as a private lecturer and from 1925 as a professor at Moscow University until his death. In 1908 he organized a commission for the exploration of phosphorites in Russia.

After the October Revolution , Samoilov founded the Research Institute for Fertilizers in Moscow with E. Britzke and DN Prjanischnikow in 1919, which was named after Samoilov's death. Samoilov's main focus was on fundamental studies of sediments and sedimentary rocks and fertilizer raw materials as well as biogeochemistry .
