Jaktens Tid ( Swedish for hunting season or hunting season ) is an album by the Finnish metal band Finntroll from 2001. This album was distributed worldwide through a contract with the Century Media label and made a significant contribution to making the band known in Europe close.

Emergence

The album was recorded from December 2000 to January 2001 in the Sundi Coop studios ( Savonlinna ) by Tuomo Valtonen. Jaktens Tid was then mixed by Mika Jussila in the well-known Finnvox studios in Helsinki and released across Europe in May 2001.

Joik singer Jonne Järvelä (now singer with Korpiklaani ) and banjo player Hanky Bannister took part as guest musicians . In addition, with Tapio Wilska, a future singer of the band took over a speaking role for an intro.

Rhythm guitarist Samuli "Skrymer" Ponsimaa was responsible for the artwork for the album and the booklet.

style

After the line-up of the debut album had established itself, the band continued to compose the style of the songs written for the debut album. This led away from the rather simple, repetitive structures of the Rivfader demo to more expansive compositions. Above all, the melody-leading use of keyboard and accordion became more important, which often brought comparisons to the music with humppa . Another distinctive element of the band was integrated into the style with rhythms characterized by offbeats . On the title track, and especially in the song Aldhissla are Joik chants heard.

Three of the thirteen pieces on the album are acoustic preludes or interludes: Krig leads directly into the first song, Bakom Varje Fura represents a short Humppa intermezzo, Tomhet och Tystnad Härska finally lets the album end in ambient style. Behind this piece there is another hidden track , which stylistically largely corresponds to the following EP Visor om Slutet . With the song Vargtimmen , the band's only cover version so far is also included on the album, the original comes from the Swedish folk band Hedningarna .

The other songs on the album deal with similar content as the previous album. As a running gag there is another song on this album with Kyrkovisan about the fate of the two priests Aamund and Kettil .
