Jaltomata umbellata is a plant type from the genus jaltomata in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Historical representation as Atropa umbellata

Jaltomata umbellata are up to 1 m high shrubs whose shoots and the outward-facing side of the calyx are covered with straight, glandular and shorter, branched, non-glandular trichomes . The leaves of the leaves are typically entire, ovate, pointed towards the front, less than 11 cm long and 8 cm wide.

The inflorescences consist of four to nine flowers . The peduncle is 4.5 to 11 mm long, the densely hairy pedicels 6 to 9 mm. The tips of the calyx and crown are triangular to narrowly triangular. In the flowering phase the calyx has a diameter of 8 to 9 mm, the calyx lobes are 4 to 5 mm long, the distances between the lobes are 2 mm. The crown is tubular and has a wide hem, the corolla tube is 6.5 to 8 mm long and partially or completely filled with red nectar . The coronet is wheel- to bell-shaped, cream-colored or pale-green and has a diameter of 14 to 23 mm, it remains open during the night. The stamens are 9.2 to 10.9 mm long without the enlarging base and stand up to about 7 mm above the crown. The slender part of the stamens is covered in the lower third or lower quarter with some unbranched trichomes. The unopened anthers are 1.9 to 2.1 mm long and 1.4 to 1.5 mm wide, after opening they are 1.2 to 1.3 mm long. The stylus is about 8 to 13.3 mm long. The stigma stands up to 8 mm above the stamens, but is occasionally not protruding beyond them. 70 to 78 ovules were counted per carpel .

When the fruit ripens, the calyx has enlarged to a radius of 6 to 8 mm, the berry is orange in color and contains about 1.36 to 1.48 mm large seeds.

Occurrence

The species occurs in the department of Lima ( Peru ), where it occurs in the coastal deserts called Loma at an altitude between 300 and 500 m.
