James McArdle
James McArdle is a British actor . In 2010 he graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and has since devoted himself mainly to the theater, so he was already part of the ensembles of the National Theater of Scotland and the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC). He also participated in some movies and a number of television productions, most recently, he took a starring role in Man in Orange Shirt on alongside Vanessa Redgrave and Oliver Jackson-Cohen .
life and career
McArdle grew up in Glasgow and worked on a number of films as a child. For example, in 2001 he got a small role in Peter Capaldi's drama Strictly Sinatra via a modern Glaswegian Rat Pack , starring Ian Hart , Kelly Macdonald and Brian Cox . After graduating from school, he studied at the London Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), where he graduated in 2010.
In his senior year at RADA, he appeared in a production of Macbeth at the Globe Theater and received the lead role in Anya Reiss' summer hit Spur of the Moment at the Royal Court Theater in London . He also received positive reviews for his role in A Month in the Country by Ivan Turgenev at the Chichester Festival Theater. In 2011 McArdle played the role of Agathon in Emperor and Galilean by Henrik Ibsen at the Royal National Theater in London. In the same year he was also seen as Robin Hood in the RSC production of The Legend, adapted by Ella Hickson at the Royal Shakespeare Theater ( Stratford-upon-Avon ).
In 2012 he took on the lead role of Harold Abrahams in Chariots of Fire , Mike Bartlett's stage adaptation of the film of the same name . The play opened in London's Hampstead Theater on May 9, 2012 and moved to the West End on June 23, 2012 , where it could be seen until January 5, 2013. In 2014 he played King James I of Scotland in Rona Munro's King James I , which premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival and continued at the Royal National Theater. For this he joined the Scottish theater company National Theater of Scotland.
In 2015 the Chichester Festival Theater put its main season under the motto Young Checkov . McArdle played in two different works by Anton Chekhov during this season : Ivanov and Platonov . In the latter, he took on the main role of Platonov, for which he was awarded the Ian Charleson Award in 2016.
In 2017 he took on one of the leading roles as Captain Thomas March in the BBC two-parter Man in an Orange Shirt . Vanessa Redgrave , Oliver Jackson-Cohen , Joanna Vanderham and Julian Morris were also represented in leading roles .
