Chariots of Fire is an instrumental by Vangelis from 1981, which was composed by himself and is part of the soundtrack of the film The Hour of the Winner .

history

The instrumental is characterized by its distinctly slow rhythm .

It was released on March 31, 1981, and the instrumental's CD single was released in 1989. Since its release, the piece has been used in a wide variety of television programs and sporting events.

At the launch of the first Macintosh from Apple , the piece was played. It was also heard at the 1984 Winter Olympics and the 1984 Summer Olympics , 1988 , 1996 and 2012 .

Vangelis was accused of having used Stavros Logaridis' song City of Violets to compose the piece . This could be refuted in court. Vangelis was able to convince that he had not heard the said title before composing Chariots of Fire . Clear similarities between the two songs could not be heard.
