James Leighman Williams (born September 22, 1985 in Sacramento ) is a retired American saber fencer .

successes

James Williams won in 2007 in Rio de Janeiro and 2011 in Guadalajara with the team the gold medal at the Pan American Games . In 2007, he also won silver individually. At the Pan American Championships he won the title with the team in Querétaro in 2008 , in San Salvador in 2009 , in Reno in 2011 and in Cancún in 2012 . In 2009 he became Vice Pan American Champion in singles and also won bronze three times in singles between 2006 and 2012. Williams took part in the Olympic Games twice: In 2008 he and his team reached the gold medal battle in Beijing after victories over Hungary and Russia , in which the US team lost to France with 37:45. Together with Timothy Morehouse , Jason Rogers and Keeth Smart he received the silver medal. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , Williams retired in the second round of the individual and finished 25th in the end. With the team he finished eighth and last. After the games, he ended his career.

Williams studied American history and Russian studies at Columbia University , for which he was also active in fencing in college.
