Jan-Heiner Tück (* 1967 in Emmerich ) is a German Catholic theologian and university professor.

Life

After graduating from high school at the Collegium Augustinianum Gaesdonck, Jan-Heiner Tück studied Catholic theology and German studies at the universities of Tübingen and Munich from 1987 to 1994 . He was then at Peter Hünermann in Tübingen Dr. theol. PhD . After working as a research assistant at the University of Lucerne and the University of Freiburg as well as a visiting professorship at the University of Vienna , he qualified as a professor at the University of Freiburg in 2007 and then took up professorship at the universities in Osnabrück and Freiburg.

In 2009, Tück was appointed adjunct professor in Freiburg, and since 2010 he has held the professorship for dogmatics at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna . On behalf of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University, he organized a highly regarded symposium “Remembrance of the Future - 50 Years of the Second Vatican Council” in January 2012, which was supposed to present the fundamental course of the council. A little later, Tück mediated the dispute over the Austrian pastors' initiative, which had launched a public “call to disobedience”. He was able to contribute to the objectification of the debate by winning the two main actors, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn and Helmut Schüller, the chairman of the pastors' initiative, to participate in a joint book project. The book, which critically discusses the theses of the pastors' initiative, is entitled “Cracks in the Foundation? The dispute over the pastors' initiative ”appeared. After symposia on the work of Paul Celan, Peter Handke and Arnold Stadler, Tück initiated the poetics lectureship “Literature and Religion” at the University of Vienna in the spring of 2016. Its intention is to make the presence of religious motifs in contemporary literature visible and to promote the dialogue between theology and literary studies. So far, Thomas Hürlimann, Sibylle Lewitscharoff, Nora Gomringer, Alois Brandstetter and Christian Lehnert have been guests of the poetics department.

Tück has been writing in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung since 1999 , where he repeatedly takes a stand on church affairs or politically sensitive issues. He repeatedly warned against bringing the traditionalist Pius Brotherhood back into the full communion of the Catholic Church without any preconditions. He also contradicted the tendency to refer to jihadist suicide bombers as martyrs and recalled that the semantics of non-violence are characteristic of the term martyr in the Judeo-Christian tradition. Finally, he criticized the chairman of the German Bishops' Conference, Reinhard Cardinal Marx , and the council chairman of the Evangelical Church, Regional Bishop Heinrich Bedform-Strohm , for having laid their pectoral cross on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land on the Jerusalem Temple Mount in the presence of Sheikh Omar Awadallah Kiswani .

In October 2019, Tück rated the Amazon Synod as highly innovative and the Pope was now forced to act. "If he does not want to go down in history as the Pope of Announcements," he would have to clear the way for the ordination of married "proven men" .

Tück has been a member of the editorial team since 2002 and editor of the international Catholic journal Communio since 2007 .

Tück is married and has four children.
