Jan Kleihues

Jan Kleihues (born March 17, 1962 in Berlin ) is a German architect and university professor.

Life

Jan Kleihues is the son of Josef Paul Kleihues and Sigrid Kleihues. After graduating from high school in Berlin in 1982, he studied architecture at the Berlin University of the Arts between 1983 and 1989 . During his studies he was assistant to Markus Lüpertz , Peter Cook and John Hejduk at the summer academy in Salzburg and project architect with Peter Eisenman in New York. From 1989 to 1992 he worked as a project architect in the offices of Daniel Libeskind in Berlin and Rafael Moneo in Madrid. In 1992 he founded the “Jan Kleihues” office. From 1993 to 1998 he worked as a contact architect for Rafael Moneo for the projects "Bürohaus Block A4" and "Hyatt Hotel Block A5" in the debis area on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.

In 1996 he founded the company Kleihues + Kleihues Gesellschaft von Architekten mbH together with his father Josef Paul Kleihues and Norbert Hensel . After his father's death in 2004, Jan Kleihues and Norbert Hensel continue to run the office. From 1999 to 2001 he was a member of the Federal Presidium of the Association of German Architects (BDA). From 2006 to 2012 he was a member of the Commission for Urban Design of the City of Munich , from 2011 to 2016 a member of the Advisory Board for Urban Design of the City of Münster and from 2012 to 2017 a member of the Building Council for Urban Development and Environment in Berlin.

Jan Kleihues was visiting professor from 2006 to 2008 at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Berlin and from 2008 to 2009 at the University of Bologna , Facoltà di Architettura “Aldo Rossi” in Cesena. From 2009 to 2010 he was visiting professor at the Beuth University of Technology , Berlin. Since 2011 he has held a professorship in the architecture and urban development department at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences . In addition to his university activities, he regularly gives guest lectures at home and abroad and sits on various national and international juries.

His most famous projects include the Sofitel Hotel (formerly Hotel Concorde in Berlin) as well as the Hotel Maritim and the residential and commercial building on Leipziger Platz in Berlin. In 2016, the headquarters of the Federal Intelligence Service in Berlin was completed according to his plans. With a final approved total budget of 1.086 billion euros, the BND new building complex is the federal government's largest construction project to date. Currently, according to his draft u. a. the Berlin Ku'damm square was rebuilt.

Jan Kleihues lives in Berlin and has three children.
