Johann Nepomuk Wendt

Johann Nepomuk Wendt (also Went, Wend; Czech Jan Nepomuk Vent ; born June 27, 1745 in Divice , † July 3, 1801 in Josefstadt ) was a Bohemian composer and oboist .

Live and act

Wendt received his musical training in the Zittolieber castle chapel from Ernst Karl Pachta von Rayhofen . He later worked as an oboist with Johann Josef Philipp Pachta von Rayhofen in Prague. Since the mid-1770s had Wendt as an English horn player in the harmony music of Joseph zu Schwarzenberg at the Castle Trebon , Krumlov Castle and Vienna . At the same time he was from 1777 as the second oboist of the kk theater next to the castle . After his son-in-law Joseph Triebensee had appointed him second oboist for imperial harmony music in 1782, Wendt left Prince Schwarzenberg's service. In 1787 he was also appointed oboist in the Vienna court orchestra .

Wendt had ten children. His son Wilhelm also worked as an oboist and was music director in Lanschütz with Franz Graf Esterházy. Another son was the actor and opera singer Joseph Wendt. His daughter Maximiliane was married to Joseph Triebensee.

Wendt gained fame primarily through his harmony music for Mozart's operas Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Così fan tutte, The Magic Flute and Don Giovanni .
