Jan von Flocken (born June 19, 1954 in Borna ) is a German historian and journalist .

Life

Von Flocken studied history at the Humboldt University in Berlin and became editor of the East Berlin daily newspaper Der Morgen . He moved to the 1989/90 to the Berliner Morgenpost and 1996 on the news magazine Focus . He has been a freelance writer since 2005.

At the beginning of the 1990s, Von Flocken worked on injustice in the GDR and the consequences for the victims of the SED system. He also published books on recent and contemporary history. His book about Queen Luise in 1989 was one of the first to be published on this subject in the GDR. This was followed by works on Catherine II and prominent generals in world history. His portrayal of Karl Martell as the savior of the Christian West does not correspond to the current state of research, according to which the battle of Tours and Poitiers is to be assessed more cautiously.

Jan von Flocken was interview partner and author of the new right Junge Freiheit , and published several books in Kai Homilius Verlag . He is the author of the cross Front magazine, Compact of Jürgen Elsässer that since 2017 five special issues of the series history Compact published as the main author Flockens name, and performed as a fellow at the New Right Institute for State Policy of Götz Kubitschek in appearance.

In March 2015, von Flocken was a speaker at the “readers' meeting” of the right-wing extremist magazine First! in Zeulenroda where the NPD bard Frank Rennicke appeared and the neo-fascist Alexander Dugin was switched on.

Von Flocken is married and has two children.

Together with Michael Klonovsky and Erwin Jurtschitsch , Jan von Flocken (all of Der Morgen , Berlin) received the Guardian Prize of the German daily press in 1990 from the “Freedom of the Press” foundation for contributions on the “exposure and treatment of human rights violations by the GDR justice system”.
