Janosch Brugger (born June 6, 1997 in Titisee-Neustadt ) is a German cross-country skier . He has been part of the customs ski team since 2016 .

Career

Brugger, who starts for WSG Schluchsee and has been part of the Zoll-Ski-Team since August 2016 , took part in U18 and U20 races in the Alpencup from 2012 to 2017 . He won the U20 overall standings in the 2016/17 season and took third place in the U20 overall standings in the 2015/16 season. At the 2014 Junior World Championships in Val di Fiemme he came in 33rd place over 10 km classic, 25th place in the skiathlon and ninth place with the relay. In the following year he won the bronze medal in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2015 in Steg over 10 km classic and in the mixed relay and the gold medal over 7.5 km freestyle. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2016 in Râşnov , he achieved 38th place in the sprint, ninth place over 15 km freestyle and with the relay and fifth place over 10 km classic. At the end of January 2017, he was the junior world champion in the sprint at the Junior World Championships in Soldier Hollow . He also took eighth place in the skiathlon, sixth place over 10 km freestyle and fourth place with the relay. He made his debut in the World Cup in March 2017 in Drammen , which he finished in 58th place in the sprint. At the Tour de Ski 2017/18 in Oberstdorf , he scored his first World Cup points with 23rd place in the 15 km mass start race. At the U23 World Championships in Goms in 2018 , he finished 19th in the skiathlon, 12th in the sprint and seventh place over 15 km classic. In March 2018 he and Florian Notz finished third in the team sprint at the German cross-country skiing championships in Reit im Winkl .

In the 2018/19 season Brugger finished 17th in the Lillehammer Triple and 47th in the World Cup finals in Québec . He won his first World Cup victory in Lillehammer with the fastest time of the day in the pursuit and reached 61st place in the overall World Cup at the end of the season. At the U23 World Championships in Lahti in 2019 , he came 34th in the 30 km mass start race, 11th place over 15 km freestyle and tenth place in the sprint. At the season highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tyrol , he ran to 41st place in the sprint, 18th place over 15 km classic and together with Sebastian Eisenlauer to 14th place in the team sprint.
