Jaromír Klika

Jaromír Klika (born December 26, 1888 in Prague , † May 12, 1957 in Leningrad ) was a Czech botanist and plant sociologist . He studied the geographical distribution of plants and worked in the fields of geobotany , mycology , landscape ecology and nature conservation .

Life

Klika completed his habilitation in 1922 at the Czech Technical University in Prague , Institute of Applied Botany, of which he became director. In 1931 he became associate professor there and in 1945 full professor. From 1947 to 1948 he was dean at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague . From 1951 he was professor of botany at the Charles University in Prague.

First, he dealt with mycology. Then he turned to geobotany and adopted the methods of the Swiss botanist Josias Braun-Blanquet in Montpellier .

Klika is one of the founders of the Czech plant sociology . He studied the vegetation of the Central Bohemian Uplands and the Křivoklátsko .

Klika worked with various associations for the protection of nature and native flora. He advocated the establishment of nature reserves in the Giant Mountains , the Bohemian Forest and the Central Bohemian Mountains.

In 1928 Klika published an identification key and in 1940 a popular scientific publication on protected plants in his Czech homeland.

Klika was a member of national and international scientific organizations and institutions, including:

  • Polskie Towarzystwo Botaniczne

In 1950 Klika was Vice-President of Section VIII of the VIII International Botanical Congress in Stockholm.
