Javier Paxariño

Javier Paxariño (* 1953 in Granada ) is a Spanish musician of world jazz ( kaval , ney , flute , saxello , alto saxophone , composition).

Live and act

Paxariño, who grew up in Granada, studied at the University of Music in Malaga. In the 1970s he played in jazz and rock music. At the end of the decade he founded the Onice Jazz Quartet and began playing various ethnic flutes from the Mediterranean. Since 1980 he has appeared in various live formations of fusion jazz and Latin music in Madrid , for example with Kirk Lightsey , Fred Lipsius and Gerry Niewood . As a studio musician , he worked with Ana Belén , Kevin Ayers , Miguel Ríos , Joaquín Sabina and Alberto Iglesias .

Since his debut album Espacio Interior (1988), which he also presented at the Festival de Jazz de Madrid , he has also been recognized by critics as a musician who stands out for his original and personal tonal language. In 1992 his second album Pangera was released , which was enthusiastically received by critics and audiences in Spain. Paxariño has also appeared as a soloist in the world music band Radio Tarifa since 1992 . Together with Glen Velez , his third album, Temurá , was created in 1994 in an international co-production . With Eliseo Parra , Tribus Hispanas was created in 1998 , which was hailed as the best album of the year by the city of Madrid. Further albums with his trio, but also with Hozan Yamamoto, follow.
