The Jaythof is a desert near Wüstenselbitz or Burkersreuth in the Upper Franconian district of Hof .

The Jaythof also appears by name as Jaithof (e) or Geidhof, in dialect also as Gadhuf. What is meant is a stately hunting and farm that is looked after by an administrator or game master . The function of the court can also be related to the right of escort , as this was the last place where an escort from the Bamberg monastery to the Bayreuth-Kulmbach margrave took place. Dietel, Seiffert and Haberlah-Pohl independently mention a Geithof near Gefrees , which is mentioned in 1360.

The Jaythof grounds are located north of the district road HO 23 in the direction of Einzel b. Ahornis and Dreschersreuth and is therefore on the border between the district of Kulmbach and Helmbrechts and Münchberg . In 1925, the field name researchers and teachers Eckstein and Hartung recorded three corridors called Alte Gemeinde at the edge of the forest above the bridging load pond , which was also used earlier for border descriptions, and located the Jaythof there. What is striking today is a ramp-like driveway into the elevated forest area, which is secured on the left by an embankment. An old road runs through marshy terrain, where the pond was dammed. The Alte Lichtenberger Straße branches off, which still exists as a byway at the edge of the forest. A little further north of the ponds, small parcels of land in the forest converge in a radial pattern, the area is terraced and indicates agricultural use and later reforestation. A straight edge of the terrain running through the forest is striking. Fragments found when the Kammweg fanned out suggest a location a little further up on the hillside of the Reusenberg. This could have been the location at a later date, when three properties are also mentioned. In Burkersreuth there is still the path name Zum Jaydthof, whereby the path runs parallel to the Kammweg.

Jaytof was mentioned in all three documents when the properties were sold by the last Wolfstriegel in 1386 and 1388 to Burgrave Friedrich von Nürnberg . In the fief book of Burgrave Johann from 1408, the Jaythof already appears as a desert. Johann Schlund states from this document that Jaythof consisted of three farms. The von Döhlau family was the owner on a pledge and Friedel Müller and Fritz Stöckel are named as residents. The von Döhlau also sold their properties in the area of Helmbrechts and Wüstenselbitz to the burgraves in 1417. Müller assumes that the Jaythof was owned by the von Schauenstein family back in the days of the Walpots . He assumes that the looting by the bailiffs of Weida , which has been handed down in neighboring towns at the beginning of the 15th century, was responsible for the decline of the Jaythof. Deer shooting has taken place in Wüstenselbitz since the margraves , the event was held in the inn, which was also the new home of the game master and later the forester . When shooting deer, ancient rifles were fired at a handmade wooden deer figure.
