Jean-Jacques Hatt
Jean-Jacques Hatt (born March 3, 1913 in Paris , † January 2, 1997 in Zellwiller ) was a French prehistoric and provincial Roman archaeologist .
Jean-Jacques Hatt came from an old Strasbourg brewing family ( Kronenbourg ). His father Jacques Hatt was the first to leave this tradition and become a legal scholar. In 1934 Jean-Jacques Hatt began studying with Charles Picard at the Sorbonne . Since 1941 he was scientifically active. In 1945 he succeeded Robert Forrers as head of the Strasbourg Museum of Archeology in the Palais Rohan . In 1953 Hatt became a lecturer and in 1958 an honorary professor at the University of Strasbourg . He also directed the Circonscription des Antiquités Historiques d'Alsace et de Moselle . For decades he had a decisive influence on the design of the Revue archéologique de l'Est et du Center-Est and the Cahiers d'archéologie et d'histoire d'Alsace . He carried out excavations in Gergovia , Aulnat , Le Pègue , the old town of Strasbourg ( Argentoratum ) and in many other places in Alsace , Lorraine and Champagne . Hatt was a specialist in particular for the Celtic and Gallo-Roman culture as well as for the religious history of the Gallo-Roman culture. He was a full member of the German Archaeological Institute .
