Jean-Marc Aveline

Jean-Marc Noël Aveline (born December 26, 1958 in Sidi Bel Abbès , Algeria ) is a French clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Marseille .

Life

Jean-Marc Aveline joined in 1977 the inter-diocesan seminary of Avignon and received on 3 November 1984, the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 1986 to 1991 he was professor of theology and parish priest in Marseille. From the following year he worked as a lecturer and director at various institutes before Aveline became Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Marseille in 2007 . From 2008 to 2013 he was consultor of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue .

Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Simidicca and auxiliary bishop in Marseille on December 19, 2013 . The Archbishop of Marseille, Georges Paul Pontier , donated him episcopal ordination on January 26th of the following year. Co- consecrators were the retired Archbishops of Marseille, Roger Cardinal Etchegaray and Bernard Cardinal Panafieu . In the French Episcopal Conference , Aveline is currently President of the Council for Interreligious Relations.

Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Marseille on August 8, 2019. The inauguration took place on September 15 of the same year.

On July 8, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue .
