The association finances itself primarily on a project basis and through cooperation with foundations . He has received several awards, and his project "Pimp Your Town!" Was chosen as the Land of Ideas 2011 as the best educational idea in Germany. Every year more than 5000 pupils from over 50 schools of all school types take part in the association's projects.

aims

The aim of the association is to bring schoolchildren closer to local politics and how to use the media responsibly. This is done, for example, with the help of business games or the use of media. In the course of this, complex topics such as forced marriage or naturalization are worked through and filmed with the students in film projects.

Projects

Simulation games

The most famous business game is Pimp Your Town! , which has been conducting hands-on politics in cooperation with the state capital Hanover since 2009. Here, pupils are introduced to the basics of local politics in a playful way and then, like “real council politicians”, they first develop proposals in their groups (classes), which they in turn discuss in committees and then in the large council meeting. After each simulation game, the pupils' applications are also passed on to politicians, who discuss them again, check whether they are feasible and, to a large extent, implement them. The simulation game is accompanied by another class who, as a “press team”, produces a film and a printed magazine.

Due to the positive experience in Hanover, the simulation game has been carried out in a similar form since 2011 on Fehmarn under the name “Pimp My Island!” And in 2011 and 2012 in Hildesheim under the name “City Upgrade”. As of 2016, Pimp Your Town! also take place in Uetze , Hasbergen , Goslar , Hemmingen , Laatzen , the Hanover region , Cappeln , Jork and Isernhagen . Further simulation games were carried out as part of the “Earth Future Project” ( science in dialogue ) in Hanover, Munich and Magdeburg.

The association even implements abstract topics such as a set of rules for a district in a parliamentary process with students, for example with the “Sahlkamp Charter”.

Another characteristic of the hands-on policy games is the close cooperation with local politics, which enables both the later implementation of student applications and the implementation of the simulation game in the respective town hall.

Media projects

In the “Kulturscanner” project, school classes are divided into small working groups and independently acquire specialist knowledge about special cultural institutions. They then prepare these in order to convey them to their peers in an entertaining way.

For members of the Bundestag, such as Kerstin Tack (SPD), the association also deals with federal political issues with students. In the WahlkreisTACKtiker project, students make films on various topics such as data protection or career preparation, in which they collect opinions and facts on these topics in the area, among other things. They put these into film as surveys, interviews, comics or small game scenes.

Other film projects also produce films on complex social issues such as forced marriage or naturalization, some of which are widely used offline as well as being distributed on YouTube: For example, the film "Becoming Potatoes" is distributed to people who want to be naturalized at the Hanover naturalization authority and is explained in a simple and understandable way Way the way to German citizenship.

Other

In preparatory projects such as professional heroes , application sponsors or the I campaign , students get to know and present their own strengths better. They are also prepared for future job interviews and assessment centers , partly through cooperation with companies .

In survey projects such as Umfrage1417 , schoolchildren carry out a survey for each class, evaluate it and present the results to the public. The surveys mostly deal with the topic of “leisure behavior and quality of life of young people in the locality or district” and thus provide information for youth facilities and local politics .

Since 2012, the association has also been the sponsor of the media bus of the state capital Hanover, with which projects such as the FerienCard are carried out on the move.
