Jean-Sébastien Dea (born February 8, 1994 in Laval , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Buffalo Sabers of the National Hockey League since July 2019 and at the same time for their farm team , the Rochester Americans , in American Hockey League plays on the position of the center .
Career
Dea spent his junior years between 2011 and 2014 with the Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . There the striker completed a total of 210 games in the three game years, in which he scored 225 points . He had his most successful year in the 2012/13 season , when he collected 21 points in 14 games in the playoffs.
After the French-Canadian went unnoticed in the NHL Entry Draft , he was signed as a free agent by the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League in September 2013 . He spent the season in the junior division, but made his professional debut for Pittsburgh's farm team , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , in the American Hockey League at the end of the 2013/14 season . At the beginning of the 2014/15 game year , in which he also played a few games for the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL , he was an integral part of the squad in Wilkes-Barre / Scranton for the following four seasons. There, the attacker was a constant point collector, which was rewarded in the course of the 2016/17 season with his first appointment to the NHL squad of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the one-year contract extension in summer 2017.
In the 2017/18 season , more NHL missions were added for Dea, so that his expiring contract was again extended by one year. When trying to send him to the AHL via the waiver shortly before the start of the 2018/19 season , however, he was selected by the New Jersey Devils and was there at the beginning of the NHL squad. After 20 appearances for the Devils, however, he returned to Pittsburgh via the same route in November 2018. He was employed there for three months until February 2019 and was mainly back in the AHL before he was transferred to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Chris Wideman . There he ended the season and joined the Buffalo Sabers as a free agent in July 2019 .
