Jean Prévost (writer)
Jean Prévost (born June 13, 1901 in Saint-Pierre-lès-Nemours , Seine-et-Marne department , † August 1, 1944 in Sassenage , Isère department ) was a French writer and resistance fighter .
Life
Prévost came from a small family, nevertheless attended the Lycée Henri IV and from 1919 graduated from the École normal supérieure , but renounced the agrégation in order to work as a novelist, journalist and essayist . He completed his habilitation in 1942 at the University of Lyon with the two dissertations La création chez Stendhal. Essai sur le métier d'écrire et la psychologie de l'écrivain (Marseille 1942, 1951, 1974 and 1996) and Essai sur les sources de Lamiel, les amazones de Stendhal, le procès de Lacenaire (Lyon 1942). André Gide brought him to the literary magazine Nouvelle Revue Française . He was friends with Antoine de Saint-Exupéry , whom he got into writing, and the publicist Ramón Fernández , who, unlike him, drifted away from the French fascists. In 1934 he published the novel of a parvenu , Le Sel sur la plaie .
After the occupation of France in World War II , Prévost went underground and was a fighting member of the Resistance under the name of Capitaine Goderville (weapon in hand and the manuscript of his Baudelaire book in his knapsack ). In 1944 he was ambushed and shot by the German occupiers.
In 1943 Prévost received the Great Literature Prize from the Académie française . There is a Center de Recherche en Littérature Jean Prévost at the University of Lyon III .
