Jelena Kairatowna Tairowa ( Russian Елена Кайратовна Таирова , English transcription used by FIDE : Elena Tairova ; born August 28, 1991 in Minsk ; † March 16, 2010 in Moscow ) was a Russian chess player .

Life

Tairowa was named International Women's Champion (WIM) in 2005, Women's Grand Master (WGM) in 2006 and International Master (IM) in 2007 . She met the WIM standards in November 2003 at the championship of the Ryazan Oblast in Ryazan and at an IM tournament in Serpukhov in August 2004 , and the WGM standards at two IM tournaments held in Minsk and Vladimir in 2005 . The WGM standard from Minsk was also the IM standard, and Tairova fulfilled other IM standards at the World Youth Stars 2006 in Kirishi , at a GM tournament in Moscow and at the Russian women's championship in Gorodets . Tairowa suffered from lung cancer , which first appeared in 2008. After a temporary improvement, she felt so sick again from the end of 2009 that she could no longer take part in chess tournaments.

Her last FIDE rating of 2,455 Elo points shows her as an up-and-coming talent whose possible zenith was prevented by early death: by November 2009 she had worked her way up to the seventh best youth player in the world and 38th in the women's world rankings.

On March 16, 2010, she died of carcinoma at the age of 18.
