Jens-Lys Michel Cajuste (born August 10, 1999 in Gothenburg ) is an American - Swedish football player who has been under contract with the Danish first division club FC Midtjylland since July 2018 . The midfielder has been a Swedish U21 international since September 2019 .

Jens Cajuste was born in Gothenburg to an American of Haitian descent and a Swede. In 2005, at the age of six, he moved with his family to China , where they lived first in Luoyang and later in Beijing . In the Chinese capital, he started playing soccer at Sports Beijing and then played for Yu Ye Beijing. After four years, the Cajuste family returned to Gothenburg, where he played for half a year for Guldhedens IK before moving to the junior division of Örgryte IS .

There he was ordered to the first team of the second division for the first time at the end of the 2016 game year . On October 17, 2016 (27th matchday) he made his debut in the 1: 4 away defeat against IK Sirius in the Superettan when he came on for Rasmus Andernil Bozic in the 87th minute . He was also used in the remaining two league games of the season. In the following season in 2017 he was only used in three league games and had to be relegated with the club as fourth from bottom. In the 2018/19 season, Cajuste moved to the Danish club FC Midtjylland . The first division paid a training allowance of 1.8 million Swedish kronor for this and provided the talented midfielder with a five-year contract. He initially played for the reserve team. He made his debut in the top Danish division on August 26, 2018 (7th matchday) in a 3-0 home win against Randers FC when he came on in the 79th minute for the experienced Tim Sparv . This season he was only used in one other league game of the first selection and collected mainly in the reserve operating time. In the next 2019/20 season he was regularly considered by head coach Brian Priske . On October 21, 2019 (13th match day) he scored his first goal in the Superligaen in a 2-1 home win against Randers FC. This season he played 24 league games in which he scored a goal. With the Ulvene he managed to win the Danish championship.

National team

Jens Cajuste is a US-American-Swedish citizen, but can currently only accrue for Svenska Fotbollförbundet . This stems from the fact that neither Cajuste nor his parents or grandparents were born in the United States. His Haitian-born father was only naturalized. Since he has not lived in the USA for two consecutive years, he is not eligible to play for any United States Soccer Federation team under the FIFA statutes .

Jens Cajuste has been playing for the Swedish U21 national team since September 2019 .
