Jens Funk (born March 13, 1954 in Castrop-Rauxel ) is a German physicist and ophthalmologist. He was deputy clinic director of the eye clinic at the University Hospital Zurich.

Life

Funk's parents are the lawyer Walter Funk and his wife Dorothea geb. Fehr. Funk attended elementary school in Hamm and Hammonense grammar school . Because of his father's transfer, he moved to the Bochum State High School in 1967 . After graduating from high school, he became active in the Corps Suevia Freiburg in 1972 . From 1973 he studied physics at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . After an interlude at the Technical University of Vienna (1975/76), he completed his intermediate diploma in Freiburg in 1977 . The following year he began his thesis at the Freiburg Institute for Biophysics (W. Kreutz) . At the same time he began studying medicine . In 1979 he completed his physics studies with a diploma (very good). After three years as a research assistant at the Freiburg Institute of Biophysics and Radiation Biology, he was in 1982 magna cum laude for Dr. rer. nat. PhD . In the same year he passed the first part of the medical state examination. After Part 2 (1983) and Part 3 (1984) he was licensed as a doctor , and in 1985 he was again magna cum laude as a Dr. med. PhD. At the University Hospital Freiburg , he held from 1984 to 1988, the ophthalmological specialist training. As a senior physician , he completed his habilitation in March 1993. As a private lecturer , he received the Venia legendi for ophthalmology. In 1995 he became senior physician and deputy clinic director. The ALU appointed him an associate professor in 1999 . In 2002/03 he was acting director of the Freiburg Eye Clinic. From April to September 2006 he was chief physician at the Charlottenklinik Stuttgart . After returning to Freiburg as a senior physician in October 2006, he was appointed head physician of the eye clinic by the University Hospital Zurich on February 1, 2007 and appointed associate professor ad personam on September 1, 2009 .
