Jerry Sohl

Gerald Allan Sohl Sr. (born December 2, 1913 in Los Angeles , California , † November 4, 2002 in Thousand Oaks , California) was an American screenwriter and writer.

Life

Jerry Sohl attended Central College in Chicago , served in the US Air Force from 1942 to 1945 and then worked as a journalist and photographer for the Daily Telegraph in Bloomington . In 1958 he became a freelance writer and returned to California. He made his debut in 1952 with the novel The Haploids , which tells of a man-hating scientist who uses parthenogenesis to try to create a world that should be free from both men and violence.

Sohl, who often wrote under his pseudonyms Nathan Butler , Sean Mei Sullivan and Roberta Jean Mountjoy , was a sought-after writer of science fiction and horror films , especially in the 1960s . For example, he wrote for the television series Incredible Stories , The Man from Atlantis , Invasion of Vega , The Outer Limits , Merciless City and Spaceship Enterprise .

He also wrote the screenplays for Twelve Hours of Death from 1960 and Count Dracula's Witch from 1968.

Jerry Sohl, who has also performed as a concert pianist, died in 2002 at the age of 88.
