Jessica Raine
Jessica Raine (* 1981 or 1982 as Jessica Lloyd ) is a British actress . She became known for her role as midwife Jenny Lee in the television series Call the Midwife .
Life
Raine grew up on a farm near Hay-on-Wye on the border between Wales and England. She has an older sister. Her father, who was active in a theater group, encouraged her interest in acting. Her mother, who worked as a nurse, gave her the memoirs of Jennifer Worth , on which Call the Midwife is based, to read at an early age .
Raine first studied drama and cultural studies at the University of the West of England in Bristol and then decided to train as an actor. After numerous rejections from various drama schools, she went to Thailand , where she worked as an English teacher for a year. The following year she reapplied to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and was accepted there. She finished her training in 2008.
Shortly thereafter, she received a first major role in a production of Simon Stephen's play Harper Regan at the Royal National Theater . This was followed by roles in other theater productions as well as first roles in television productions. In 2010 she got a minor role in Ridley Scott's period film Robin Hood .
In 2012, she took on the lead role in the BBC television series Call the Midwife . After the series was successfully extended by a second season, the BBC offered her a contract for eight more seasons, but Raine declined to focus on her film career. She left the series at the end of the third season.
For her role in the television movie An Adventure in Space and Time , she was nominated for an award at the Critics' Choice Television Awards 2014 for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Movie or Miniseries , but was defeated by Allison Tolman .
In 2015 she starred as Jules Sutter on the television series Fortitude .
She has been in a relationship with actor Tom Goodman-Hill since 2010 . The couple married in September 2015.
