Jessica and the Reindeer is a Christmas film directed by John D. Hancock in 1989 .
action
9-year-old Jessica suffers from the death of her mother. Since she told her about Santa Claus, she firmly adheres to this belief, which neither her father, her older brother Steve nor her best friend Carol understand. Her father, who can barely keep the family afloat, would like to give his daughter to her aunt.
One day Jessica finds an injured reindeer in the woods. Believing it to be Prancer, one of Santa's reindeer, Jessica tries to heal the animal without her father knowing anything about it. She surprisingly receives help from her brother.
When she asks a department store Santa to tell the real one about Prancer's whereabouts, he instead informs the local newspaper, which publishes a large article. However, her father has since discovered the animal and sold it to a butcher.
Together with Steve, Jessica sets out at night to free the animal exhibited by the buyer. She tries to persuade Prancer to fly away, as Jessica expects a Santa Claus reindeer to do, so that she doubts whether it is really a magical reindeer, but falls from the cage and passes out.
Given the community's strong concern for Jessica's righteous faith, her father realizes what he did to his daughter by giving the animal away. He'll buy the animal back. When they release it, it runs over a cliff and disappears. But immediately afterwards Jessica and her father hear the bells of Santa's sleigh team, which appears a little later in the sky and into which Prancer integrates like a rising star.
