Rutanya Alda
Rutanya Alda Skrastiņa (born October 13, 1942 in Riga ) is an American actress of Latvian origin.
life and career
Rutanya Alda was born in Riga in 1942, the daughter of a businesswoman and a poet. After the end of the Second World War , the family lost their home and they had to live in refugee accommodation. A fairy tale performed there that gave her hope as a child in the desolate situation, she described as a decisive experience for her decision to become an actress. She later moved to the United States with her family. In 1968 Alda made her film debut in Brian De Palma's independent film Greetings , in which she played a small role as a shoplifter. She established herself in the film business with small to medium supporting roles in productions such as Pat Garrett chases Billy the Kid or Asphalt-Blossoms .
In Michael Cimino's Oscar-winning Vietnam drama Going Through Hell , Alda played John Savage's newlywed wife , who was traumatized by her husband's war injuries. She also played Carol Ann , the long-suffering servant of Joan Crawford , in the biopic My Dear Raven Mother (1981), which has since become a cult film ; and the mother of an Italian-American family in Damiano Damiani's horror film Amityville II - The Obsessed (1982). For the last two films mentioned, however, she had the dubious honor of being nominated twice in a row for a Golden Raspberry in the category of worst supporting actress. In addition to her film roles, Alda also appeared as a stage actress and in television series such as Cannon , Law & Order , California Clan and Cold Case - No Victim Is Ever Forgotten .
From 1977 until his accidental death in 2006, Rutanya Alda was married to her fellow actor Richard Bright . Their son Jeremy was born in 1988. In 2015, Alda published a book about the genesis of the film Meine liebe Raben Mother under the title The Mommie Dearest Diary: Carol Ann Tells All .
