João Maria Messi

João Maria Messi OSM (born October 5, 1934 in Recanati ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and former bishop of Barra do Piraí-Volta Redonda .

Life

João Maria Messi joined the religious order of the Servites , made his profession on April 1, 1956 and was ordained a priest on April 7, 1958 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on June 15, 1988 auxiliary bishop in Aracaju and titular bishop of Zucchabar . The Archbishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro , Cardinal Eugênio de Araújo Sales , donated him episcopal ordination on August 14 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Luciano José Cabral Duarte , Archbishop of Aracaju, and Moacyr Grechi OSM, Bishop of Rio Branco .

On March 22, 1995, he was appointed Bishop of Irecê . On November 17, 1999, he was appointed Bishop of Barra do Piraí-Volta Redonda . On June 8, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related resignation.
