Joachim August Wilhelm von Bernstorff (born November 20, 1800 in Othenstorff , † December 21, 1869 in Neustrelitz ) was a Prussian and Mecklenburg major general and, most recently, Mecklenburg chief stable master .

Life

origin

His parents were Heinrich Wilhelm von Bernstorff (* April 15, 1774; † April 1, 1844) and his wife Elisabeth Charlotte Sophie, born von Fabrice (* May 12, 1780; † July 1, 1883).

Career

He came on September 15, 1816 as a grenadier in the Kaiser Franz Garde Grenadier Regiment No. 2 . There he was appointed portepeef ensign on June 18, 1817 . On September 30, 1819 he was aggregated as a second lieutenant and on January 21, 1821 was assigned. On February 6, 1830, he was aggregated into the 2nd Garde-Ulanen-Landwehr Regiment, where he was promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on April 14, 1832 and appointed Rittmeister and squadron chief on April 25, 1839 . On May 21, 1844 he came to the Guard Cuirassier Regiment and was promoted to Major on March 31, 1846 . On September 12, 1846, he was incorporated as a regular staff officer . But on October 28, 1846 he took his leave with the character of a lieutenant colonel, in order to then go to the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg-Schwerin service. There he became the commander of what would later become the Mecklenburg Dragoon Regiment No. 17 on November 7, 1846 . During the March Revolution of 1849 he took part in the Baden campaign. Promoted to colonel on September 29, 1851 , he took his leave on July 24, 1858 in regimental uniform.

In 1861 he became the Mecklenburg head stable master. On September 11, 1864, he was then given the character of Mecklenburg Major General. With the conclusion of the military convention of the two Mecklenburgs with Prussia, he was still retired as major general on March 27, 1868. D. taken over into Prussian service before he died in Neustrelitz on December 21, 1869.

family

On July 5, 1844, in Darmstadt, he married Freiin Natalie von Günderrode (* January 28, 1807; † March 5, 1890) widow of the Hessian general and minister Georg Abraham Karl von Falck and daughter of the President of the Higher Appeal Court, Friedrich Justinian von Günderrode . The couple had several children:

  • Natalie Wilhelmine Oktavia (* May 23, 1846; † February 23, 1922) ⚭ 1869 Freiherr Maximilian von Bellersheim called Stürzelsheim (* April 11, 1841; † December 16, 1914)
  • Friedrich Wilhelm Gustav Adolf (November 30, 1847 - December 11, 1853)
