Joachim Barth (born in Nordhausen ) is a German lighting designer who works in opera , ballet , drama and vaudeville .

life and work

Barth studied economics at the Universities of Bochum and Wuppertal , as well as theater studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

As a lighting designer , he has taken on around a hundred productions so far, including a. with the directors Juri Lyubimow (Moscow), Andrej Woron (Berlin), Rafael Aguilar (Madrid), as well as with Robert Wilson , Peter Brook , Antonio Gades and Peter Mussbach . For many years he was the technical director of Mbongeni Ngema's group of Committed Artists in Johannesburg . He has had a close artistic partnership with Peter Stein since 2000, and he also took over the technical management of his mega-projects Faust I and Faust II (2000, Expo 2000 in Hanover) and Wallenstein (2007, Berliner Ensemble in the Kindl brewery) . Since then he has accompanied Stein on almost all guest productions in Italy, at the Salzburg Festival , at the Vienna Burgtheater , in Zurich and Moscow.

Barth also acted as organizational and technical director for numerous theater guest performances at major festivals around the world. He was the technical and venue manager at a number of event institutions, such as the Arena Berlin , and at festivals such as the Munich Biennale . He is currently the managing partner of the Berlin Admiralspalast , whose remodeling and renovation he was jointly responsible for from 2002 until the reopening in 2006. He is also a permanent member of the Burgtheater .
