Joachim Tancke
Joachim Tancke , also Joachim Tanck , Latinized Tanckius, (born December 9, 1557 in Perleberg ; † November 17, 1609 in Leipzig ) was a physician , poet , astronomer and in 1593 and 1599 rector of Leipzig University . He was a "combative Paracelsist " and a representative of alchemy .
Life
Tancke studied in Leipzig from 1582 at the artist faculty and from 1586 medicine. In 1591 he was promoted to Doctor medicinae and on December 31, 1594 appointed professor of surgery and anatomy in Leipzig. Through his work on astronomy he became acquainted with Johannes Kepler .
He understood alchemy as a continuation of the teachings of Paracelsus.
