Double villa Joachimstrasse 6/8 (2013)

The building Joachimstraße 6/8 is a double villa in the Bonn district of Gronau , which was built in 1897. It is located almost 100 m west of Adenauerallee ( Bundesstrasse 9 ) on the outskirts of Südstadt . The villa stands as a monument under monument protection .

history

The double villa was created according to a design by the architects Kayser & von Großheim . It received a plaster facade with partly neo-Gothic forms. In 1939, an air raid shelter was installed in the house at 6 Joachimstrasse , and a veranda was added shortly afterwards .

After the Second World War , the half-villa (Joachimstrasse 6) owned by the Dynamit Nobel company served as the temporary seat of the rectorate of the University of Bonn , the main building of which (the Electoral Palace ) had been destroyed. For this purpose, the property was acquired by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1949 . At that time, the state of Berlin had already planned this semi-villa as a guest house for its state representation at the federal institutions, which started their work there after Bonn was designated the seat of government of the Federal Republic of Germany. The city administration urged the State of Berlin not to induce the university rector, who is located on the ground floor, to vacate the building until the electoral palace was restored. After an appropriate intervention by the governing mayor Ernst Reuter , the rector had to move out of the villa in the spring of 1950 so that the state representative could also occupy these rooms. The top floor of the building was also expanded at the time.

In the mid-1950s, or in 1959 at the latest, the state of Berlin acquired the half-villa at Joachimstrasse 6. After Berlin began using the opposite villa at Joachimstrasse 7 as an administrative building in 1960 , it continued to serve as Berlin's guest house. In 1965 the other half of the semi-detached house (Joachimstrasse 8) also became the property of the state. Both were connected to one another in 1967 by three openings in the wall. The state representative had office space of 921 m² in the villa on a property area of 1171 m², eight guest rooms and two apartments (one of which was for the mayor ). The guest house was also the site of numerous events and exhibitions. A “Berlin pub” was operated in the basement of the house and served as a political meeting place. In 1987 the artistically designed “ Kreuzberger Weinstube ” was set up in the former air raid shelter connected to the pub via a corridor . The double villa was entered in the list of monuments of the city of Bonn in January 1988.

In the course of the relocation of the seat of parliament and government , the state representative office of Berlin moved to the federal capital in 2000. The previous guest house was sold for 2.6 million D-Marks at the end of 2001 , although the city prohibited its use as an office building due to its location in Joachimstrasse, which is designated as a residential area.
