Joanna Majdan (at times Joanna Majdan-Gajewska, born June 9, 1988 in Koszalin ) is a Polish chess player and women's grandmaster (WGM) since 2009.

Joanna Majdan has won medals at Polish girls' championships several times. In 1998 she won a bronze medal in the under 10 category in Krynica-Zdrój . In 2002 it was a gold medal at the national championships under 14 years of age.

Also in 2002 she finished fourth at the U14 Women's World Youth Championship in Heraklion . In 2004 she was second in the U16 youth world championship . In 2005 she won third place at the U18 World Youth Championship in Belfort . Because of this success, FIDE awarded her the title of International Women's Champion (WIM).

In 2006 she won the gold medal at the Polish U20 Youth Championship. In 2008 she was first at the Polish U20 championships and won silver in the Polish women’s individual championship.

In 2009 Majdan was appointed WGM. She fulfilled the required standards at the Polish Women's Championship in 2008 in Krakow and at the 2008 Women's Chess Olympiad in Dresden .

National team

With the Polish women's team, Majdan took part in the Chess Olympiads 2006 in Turin , 2008 in Dresden and 2010 in Khanty-Mansiysk . In Dresden she won a gold medal on board 4 with 9.5 points from 11 games. She also took part in the Women's World Team Championships in 2009 and 2017 and the Women's European Team Championships in 2009, 2011 , 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019. In 2009 in Novi Sad and 2015 in Reykjavík she won the individual ranking of the reserve players, in 2011 in Porto Carras she was runner-up with the team, in 2013 in Warsaw she reached third place with the team.

In 2010 she played for AZS UMCS Lublin in the Polish team championship and achieved the third-best individual result on the women's board , and since 2018 she has been playing for Wieża Pęgów . In the German women's Bundesliga she played on the top board of SV Chemie Guben from 2010 to 2012 , and since the 2015/16 season she has played for the Rodewian chess chicks .
