Filippo Iannone OCarm (born December 13, 1957 in Naples ) is an Italian clergyman, Roman Catholic Archbishop and since 2018 President of the Pontifical Council for Legal Texts .

Life

Filippo Iannone joined the Congregation of the Carmelites at 1 October 1977 and put the profession on October 15, 1980th He was ordained a priest on June 26, 1982 by the auxiliary bishop in Naples , Antonio Ambrosanio . After initially working in various positions for his order, he became legal vicar for the diocesan court in Naples in 1990. After working as episcopal vicar for the fourth pastoral area from 1994 to 1996, Iannone became general provisional vicar of the Archdiocese of Naples, which he remained until 2001.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Nebbi and auxiliary bishop in Naples on April 12, 2001 . The Archbishop of Naples Michele Cardinal Giordano donated him episcopal ordination on May 26th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Vincenzo Pelvi , auxiliary bishop in Naples, and Agostino Vallini , bishop of Albano .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on June 19, 2009 Bishop of Sora-Aquino-Pontecorvo . On January 25, 2010, he was appointed a member of the Apostolic Signature . On January 31, 2012, the Pope appointed him Vicegerente for the Diocese of Rome and gave him the personal title of Archbishop .

On November 11, 2017, he was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Legal Texts . Pope Francis appointed him President of this council on April 7, 2018. On July 13, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for the Clergy for five years . On July 29 of the same year, the Pope appointed him a member of the Appeals Commission for Serious Criminal Matters, the decision of which is reserved for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
