Joaquim Rufino do Rêgo

Joaquim Rufino do Rêgo (born January 14, 1926 in Picos ; † August 10, 2013 in Prontomed, Teresina ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Parnaíba .

Life

Joaquim Rufino do Rêgo entered the Archbishopric Seminary of Olinda in 1947 and studied philosophy . In 1949 he moved to Rome to study Catholic theology at the Pontifical Brazilian Pius College , which he finished with a focus on dogmatics at the Pontifical Gregorian University . He was ordained a priest on October 5, 1952 in Rome . He worked at the cathedral Nossa Senhora da Vitória of the diocese of Oeiras , later as diocesan secretary. He was pastor of Simplício Mendes and Picos , both in the state of Piauí .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on April 21, 1971 Bishop of Quixadá . The Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil, Archbishop Umberto Mozzoni , donated him episcopal ordination on July 4th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Edilbert Dinkelborg OFM , Bishop of Oeiras , and Paulo Hipólito de Souza Libório , Bishop of Parnaíba .

On March 25, 1986, Pope John Paul II named him Bishop of Parnaíba. On February 21, 2001, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
