Edilbert Dinkelborg ( religious name ; actually Engelbert) OFM (born November 7, 1918 in Epe ; † December 31, 1991 in Salvador , Brazil ) was a German religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Oeiras-Floriano in Brazil.

Origin and education

Engelbert Dinkelborg was born as the son of the head of the Eper Gasanstalt, Bernhard Dinkelborg, and his wife Gertrud, geb. Meier, born. He grew up with four brothers and five sisters, attended the convent school in the nearby Bardel monastery and, with the express approval of his parents, entered the Franciscan order at the age of sixteen . In order to escape the looming reprisals of the National Socialist regime , Dinkelborg joined the so-called “Children's Crusade” on May 17, 1935 in Bardel, during which several older students and several Franciscan brothers emigrated to Brazil. There Dinkelborg studied philosophy and theology and was ordained a priest on June 19, 1943 . Ten years later he was the first time to visit his home and in the local parish church of St. Agatha 's home first Mass celebrated.

Act

On June 20, 1959, Pope John XXIII appointed Dinkelborg as bishop of Oeiras , and on October 11, 1959, he received the episcopal ordination through Archbishop Armando Lombardi , the apostolic nuncio in Brazil . Co- consecrators were Fernando Gomes dos Santos , Archbishop of Goiânia and Anselmo Pietrulla OFM, Bishop of Tubarão . In his diocese , Dinkelborg has been committed to the further development of the region and the livelihood of the people for decades. During regular visits to Germany, he maintained lively contacts with numerous individuals, groups and associations who supported his work. During the Second Vatican Council , Dinkelborg took part in all four sessions as a council father. After having headed one of the poorest dioceses in Brazil for over 32 years, Dinkelborg died unexpectedly on New Year's Eve in 1991.
