The Roman Catholic Diocese of Oeiras ( Latin Dioecesis Oeirensis , Portuguese Diocese de Oeiras ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Oeiras in the state of Piauí .

history

The diocese of Oeiras was founded on December 16, 1944 by Pope Pius XII. built with the Papal Bull Ad Dominici Gregis from cessions of territory of the diocese of Piauí and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará as a suffragan . On August 9, 1952, the Diocese of Oeiras was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Teresina as a suffragan. On October 28, 1974 it gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Picos .

On December 8, 1977, Pope Paul VI changed the name in the diocese of Oeiras-Floriano . On February 27, 2008, the diocese of Floriano was separated as an independent diocese and the name of the remaining part of the diocese was again changed to the diocese of Oeiras .
